Acupuncture for Migraines in Issaquah

What are Migraines?

Migraines are more than just headaches—they can include throbbing pain, visual disturbance with light sensitivity, nausea, and neurological symptoms.

How Acupuncture Helps Migraines

Acupuncture helps regulate the nervous system, reduce inflammation, and improve circulation to the head and neck.

Backed by science

A recent randomized clinical trial (01/2026) of 120 patients with migraine without aura found that acupuncture significantly reduced the frequency and intensity of migraines while improving daily function. Patients experienced meaningful relief that continued even after treatment ended, showing lasting benefits.

A 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials found that acupuncture significantly improves migraine symptoms and overall quality of life in patients. Across multiple studies, patients experienced reductions in migraine frequency, intensity, and duration, along with better daily function.

These results were consistent across trials, showing acupuncture to be an effective, evidence-based option for both treatment and prevention.

A neuroscience-based study published in Neural Regeneration Research highlights that acupuncture can directly influence the nervous system by increasing key neurotransmitters like serotonin and regulating neural signaling pathways involved in migraine. This modulation helps calm overactive pain circuits and reduce the neurological triggers that drive migraine attacks.

By improving how the brain processes pain and supporting neural repair mechanisms, acupuncture may not only relieve symptoms—but help prevent future migraines at their source.

A natural, science-backed way to reset your nervous system and experience fewer, less intense migraines.

My experience

Chronic migraine treatment varies based on presentation and the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnosis made at intake. In TCM, migraines fall under the broader category of “headache” and are seen as an underlying pattern that has intensified, often involving tension in the neck and jaw.

I’ve recently treated a case with positive results— after two treatments, the patient has been migraine-free for two weeks with only one mild headache. More severe cases typically require 8–16 treatments.

Typical treatment plan

A typical 16-treatment plan for migraines starts with one session per week for eight weeks, then transitions to biweekly sessions for four treatments, and finishes with monthly sessions for the final four(assuming progress is being made at a good pace.).
